The Refresher Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) course is the Main Roads WA requirement for those looking to renew their accreditation to work on or near roads in Western Australia. This course provides students with all the current rules and regulations whilst allowing them to brush up on their practical skills.

A PERSON CANNOT IMPLEMENT TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT ONCE THEIR ACCREDITATION HAS EXPIRED.  

 

Main Roads WA gives a person three months following the expiry of their accreditation to sit a one day Refresher after which time they must re-sit the full course.

The BWTM Refresher course is delivered in 1 day and covers the following unit:


RIIWHS302E - Implement a traffic management plan

 

MANDATORY PRE-REQUISITES

RE-ACCREDITATION WILL NOT BE ISSUED UNTIL ALL DOCUMENTS ARE PROVIDED.

IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO RE-SIT THE FULL COURSE.

**All pre-req evidence must be submitted prior to the course.

OR Recognised Driver's Licence - minimum probationary.

Copy of Construction White Card / Safety Awareness Card

Statement of attainment or USI TRANSCRIPT 

RIICOM201E (or equivalent) Communicate in the workplace

RIIWHS302E (or equivalent) Implement a traffic management plan accreditation​

BWTM Main Roads Certificate of Accreditation

(N/A if previous student of Perth Traffic Training)

A completed SWMS or JSA used on a worksite you have signed.

List a minimum of three (3) worksites where you have undertaken traffic management duties in the previous 12 months (e.g. setting up signs/devices, controlling traffic, pedestrian management, etc.)

Students need a good level of physical fitness and health as training may involve:

  • Lifting/moving signs and devices                 (approximately 6-8kgs each)

  • Setting up/packing down sites 

  • Standing for period of up to 2 hours conducting traffic control

 

Participants require a basic level of language, literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to meet the requirements of the course, at a minimum the ability to:

  • Comply with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

  • Communicate clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

  • Identify and select appropriate traffic guidance scheme and implement traffic management plans

  • Apply legislative requirements

  • Describe the effects of travel speed and vehicle mass on stopping distances

  • Clearly communicate on a hand held radio
