This course is suitable for anyone required to work on, or near Western Australian roads, who are required to read, interpret and implement traffic management plans, handle and erect traffic management signs and devices and control traffic with a stop/slow bat.


The BWTM-TC is a three (3) day course, which is delivered face to face with an emphasis on practical training and assessment.

Pre-Requisites

ALL LEARNERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTIFICATION UPON ARRIVING FOR THEIR COURSE.


Participants will need to meet the following:

  • Hold the Construction Induction White Card /  Safety Awareness Training Blue Card or equivalent. **As an added option we deliver this course in conjunction with our traffic management  training.

  • Currently hold or have previously held a RECOGNISED drivers’ licence **MINIMUM PROBATIONARY (must provide evidence of this)

  • Provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) – Create or find your USI Here

 

Entrants will need to have good level of physical fitness and health as training will involve:

  • Lifting/moving signs and devices (approximately 6-8kgs each)

  • Setting up/packing down sites 

  • Standing for period of up to 2 hours conducting traffic control

 

Participants require a basic level of language, literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to meet the requirements of the course, at a minimum the ability to:

  • Comply with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

  • Communicate clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

  • Identify and select appropriate traffic guidance scheme and implement traffic management plans

  • Apply legislative requirements

  • Describe the effects of travel speed and vehicle mass on stopping distances

  • Clearly communicate on a hand held radio

Course Content

At the completion of the combined BWTM-TC course you will have gained an understanding of the relevant Australian, State and Territory traffic management legislation and be able to demonstrate the required level of skills and knowledge in relation to;​

  • Traffic management plans, signs and devices

  • Site and equipment safety requirements

  • Site isolation and traffic control responsibilities and authorities

  • Hazard identification, job safety analysis and safe work method statements

  • Basic signalling, traffic controlling and radio operations

Assessment Method

Knowledge based questionnaires and practical demonstration.

Competencies

Upon successful completion, all participants will receive:

1. Nationally recognised Statement of Attainment issued by Star Training & Assessing (RTO 21830) for the following units:

2. Perth Traffic Training on behalf of Star Training & Assessing is a Main Roads WA approved training provider therefore, upon successful completion and meeting all the required Main Roads WA pre-requisites, participants will also receive a Main Roads WA Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) & Traffic Controller (TC) Accreditation, valid for 3 years from date of issue.

3. MRWA Traffic Management ID Card with photo, valid for three years from date of issue.

Public Access Accreditation Listing

All participants who successfully complete the course will have the below information added to a registry on the Main Roads website, for viewing by the general public or the purpose of Accreditation verification.

The information listed will include:

  • Graduate’s Name

  • Level of Accreditation

  • Accreditation reference number

  • Date of Accreditation and the Expiry date

Training Day

Dress Code

The first two days of this course are classroom based and therefore casual, comfortable clothing is acceptable. Students are required to wear appropriate clothing for the practical component of the course on Day 3, including

  • hi- visibility long sleeved shirt (If you do not have hi-vis, we have vests that you can borrow)

  • long pants 

  • safety boots (steel cap)

Please dress to the weather conditions such as a hat and sunscreen for warm, sunny days and wet weather attire for wet days.

Refreshments

Tea & coffee is provided each day. There are some nearby food outlets to purchase your lunch and kitchen facilities if you require, should you bring your own.

Parking & Transportation

Free Parking is available. Some areas have time limitations. Please observe the signage. There is a bus stop right out front of the venue.

Reaccreditation

Re-accreditation of all traffic management accreditation holders is required every three (3) years.  It is a requirement that ‘refresher training’ is undertaken, within three months of expiry to gain re-accreditation with Main Roads WA. Failure to sit the Refresher training by the end of the three months will require the full course to be taken again.

Please note that once your card expires you cannot implement traffic management on Western Australian roads.

Subsidies

Construction Training Fund (CTF) Subsidy is applicable to this course, for eligible participants only. See our Subsidy Page for further info regarding eligibility.

No other government training entitlements and subsidy arrangements are currently available for this course.
